About my painting
Speech by the art historian Dr. Gabriele Himmelmann, on the occasion of the vernissage of Angela Zander-Reinert on 30.06.2022
An excerpt from an English-language guided tour with Mark Edwards, on the occasion of a digital exhibition with the group CrossOver4.0
...the pictures of Angela Zander-Reinert ... come across as abstract.
Moving back and forth between painterly representational expression and strong
progressive expression in colour, she recreates visible reality in her very own way.
Nina Holley, on 11/15/19 in "World"
For me, painting is a perpetual challenge.
I am particularly interested in the way colors work together, and their interaction,
which I work to develop. Colors are a sensual experience for me. The process of
painting is a process that keeps this awake. Working on it is the challenge that
always motivates and inspires me.
What matters to me in my paintings is experienced realities and their transformation in the pictorial process, through the exploration of color references. This is so important to me that the interest in the motifs takes a back seat. The motif is simply a memory of the experienced situation, the occasion and the entry point for painting a picture. In the picture, however, the colors find their own correspondences and, detached from the motif, develop into their own reality.

In Angela Zander-Reinert's paintings we can easily follow the flowing rhythm of the brushstrokes. We can feel how the tones have been formed and mentally trace the tectonics of the structure in her images.
...The main tonal landscape, introduced by a predominant colour, transforms and consolidates itself throughout the progression of the painting. The surfaces, rhythmically interfacing with one another, modulate the pictorial space, which is more or less based on objects. When we observe the lines or contours in the image, we see that they have not been drawn directly onto the canvas, but rather have arisen out of the active adjoinment of surfaces of colour. The coloured surfaces are the leading element. Even the brushstrokes appear more like flat surfaces...
This inner composure of the artist while painting refines the interrelation of the colours, while simultaneously creating evocative simplifications of the surface forms that have arisen. We see: Strong contrasts of individual colours, modulated with finer tonal references and vehement brushstrokes, rooted in a stable compositional structure.
... I see an expressive, almost romantic artistic sensibility dedicated to emotional, subjective inwardness. When contemplating her paintings, I sense a how there is a longing in them to become one with visible reality, a longing which emerges from an experience of the visible as an occasion to express personal emotionality.
... It is in her highly developed emotionality that Angela Zander-Reinert's visual power lies.
Karl-Ernst GaertnerExcerpts from a speech in August 2015
Set on canvas, her motives originate from the world of physical things. Her style is authentic
and expressive.
Her brushstrokes are broad and flat, dynamic, and sure. Her colours are
strong and clear, artfully mixed. The colour combinations may be bold, yet are consistently
coherent and well balanced. Large canvas formats are the place where the artist best
evolves her ideas and skills. She works quickly, with a sure hand, mainly with acrylic, but
also with oil, especially when seeking radiant effects.
She searches for and senses the characteristic peculiarities of her counterpart, be it a person, an
animal, or a landscape. What matters to her is to capture the unmistakable individuality of a subject or
motif, to express it in form and colour. In doing so, she abstains from committing herself to any single
interpretation. Instead, she works serially, bringing to light the various nuances and facets of
the subject. Allowing, the viewer to constantly discover new aspects, Angela Zander-Reinert's
paintings are a spectacular sensual experience in colour and form.
